Your first visit

When you come into our office you will be greeted by one of our staff who will ask you to complete a registration form and medical history. An assistant will escort you to the examination area and necessary x-rays will be taken. Dr Borrello will then discuss with you the dental challenges you've had in the past and what your specific fears are. In most instances we will arrange to take care of your very pressing problems first and a consultation will be scheduled to review all your dental needs and finances. Your dental insurance will be reviewed as well.

Frequently asked questions about sedation dentistry

What is sedation dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is the art and science of treating patients who fear the dentist for a variety of reasons. It differs from dentistry you may have experienced in the past because the doctor takes into account your past dental problems your medical history to prescribe an oral sedative to take before you treatment visit. You will have little or no memory of the procedure 24 hours later.

Am I a candidate?

Not everyone is a candidate. It depends on the severity of your conditions and the medications you are currently taking. Most patients are excellent candidates and less than 10% are not.

Will it hurt?

The sedation visit is a very relaxing one. Under no conditions will any dentistry be done until the patient is completely at ease and numb.

Why are so many people afraid of the dentist?

No one knows for sure. The same question can be asked when people fear snakes or flying across the country. It is an innate fear that up until now could not be dealt with adequately. • Laser gum treatment: Stony Hill Dental care is now using a state of the art diode laser which allows virtually painless and gentle gum procedures to be performed without open surgery. There is no bleeding and no stitches. Laser gum treatment is a very effective procedure.
• Laser diagnosis of dental decay and cavities: With the use of a special laser we can now diagnosis hidden decay on the biting surfaces of teeth. They can now be restored with tooth colored fillings long before they affect the nerve of the tooth.
